Real-time analytics

High speed decision making for critical applications

Several applications require real-time analytics which is a highly specialised area. For example a fighter jet pilot or autonomous drone needs to continually perform threat evaluation using sensor data in real-time. In another application a camera/laser system mounted under the tra

In several areas, decision making using sensor data can be off-line where time is not critical, near real-time where time is important but results are not needed instantaneously, and real-time where analysis has to be in a few milliseconds or less. The definition of near real-time varies across applications. We can safely say that any online near or real-time application requires very fast data acquisition, its analysis and transmission of results. This put major strain on sensors that must work at high speed, analysis algorithms and software that must act quickly on supplied data, and communication channels (copper and fiber) that should supply data quickly between nodes. The time gap between data samples is also a key factor where high sampling rates put a strain on acquisition, transmission and storage. Development of real-time analytics systems requires unique expertise in high speed sensors, real-time software development, FPGAs and embedded electronics, AI chips, fiber based communication and high speed communication and data management  that is useful in a broad range of fields from military, to healthcare, to intelligent transportation systems and so on.
